Distinguishing the authenticity of stainless steel kitchen equipment

Time:2023-12-18

Stainless steel is a special type of steel structural material that has a wide range of applications, such as kitchenware, sentries, car sheds, mobile toilets, urban isolation belts, and pedestrian overpasses. It is a commonly used raw material, especially for kitchen equipment, which is mostly made of stainless steel. However, in this high-tech era, many things can be counterfeited using various high-tech technologies, and stainless steel materials can also be counterfeited. How to determine the authenticity of stainless steel kitchen equipment materials?

A better way to correctly distinguish between stainless steel grades is to conduct in-depth investigation and research in relevant processing units, consult with their material managers and workers, understand the situation of the steel grade used, carefully examine the steel grade imprint on the steel, consult original materials, etc. This is the fundamental method to correctly distinguish between stainless steel grades and quality. For alloy elements with significant differences in content, they are required to be stacked separately to facilitate rational utilization and avoid unnecessary losses and waste.

Regarding how to distinguish the quality of stainless steel materials, it is impossible for individuals to identify which specific material stainless steel is, and chemical analysis is necessary. Some identification methods, such as the 400 series and 300 series, can be achieved through magnetic identification. The 400 series generally has magnetism, while the 300 series generally does not.

The quality of stainless steel materials is not only determined by their chemical composition, but also by factors such as their structure, properties, and purity. For the determination of these factors, stainless steel testing solution is obviously powerless, and can only rely on relevant professional testing and inspection. In order to better distinguish between genuine and fake stainless steel, we suggest using more professional methods for testing. However, when purchasing stainless steel products, in addition to paying attention to the factory inspection certificate or quality certificate of the product, we should also pay attention to the reputation of the merchant, and not be greedy. In addition, we can take proactive actions to identify market fraud and the true face of fake and inferior stainless steel products.

Physical identification of 304 stainless steel:

The physical identification of stainless steel plates refers to the specific method of determining whether it is stainless steel and which type of stainless steel it belongs to, based on the inherent physical and chemical properties of the product (including whole materials, leftovers, waste materials, etc.), and with the help of simple tools and senses, when the steel grade (number) is unknown.

It should be pointed out that sensory identification cannot distinguish specific steel (grade) numbers, and can only basically distinguish chromium stainless steel, chromium nickel stainless steel, and chromium manganese nitrogen stainless steel. The identification method is as follows:

1. Color difference: Stainless steel that has been pickled has a silver white and smooth surface color. Chromium nickel stainless steel has a silver white and jade color; Chromium stainless steel color is white with a slight gray luster and weak luster; The color of chromium manganese nitrogen stainless steel is slightly lighter than that of chromium nickel stainless steel. The surface color of stainless steel that has not been pickled: Chromium nickel steel is brownish white; Chromium steel is brownish black in color; Chromium manganese nitrogen is black in color (these three colors refer to those with heavier oxidation). Cold rolled unannealed chromium nickel stainless steel with a silver white surface and reflective properties. Stainless steel, except for elemental steel, generally turns white after acid washing.

2. Identification with copper sulfate: The method is to remove the oxide layer on the steel, add a drop of water, wipe with copper sulfate, and if it does not change color after wiping, it is generally stainless steel; If it turns purple red: non-magnetic is high manganese steel, while magnetic is generally ordinary steel or low alloy steel.

3. Identification with magnetite: Magnets can basically distinguish between two types of stainless steel. Because chromium stainless steel can be attracted by magnets in any state; Chromium nickel stainless steel is generally non-magnetic in the annealed state, but some may have magnetism after cold working. But high manganese steel with high manganese content is non-magnetic; The magnetic properties of chromium nickel nitrogen stainless steel are more complex: some are non-magnetic, some are magnetic, some are non-magnetic in the longitudinal plane and some are magnetic in the transverse plane. Therefore, although magnets can basically distinguish between chromium stainless steel and chromium nickel stainless steel, they cannot correctly distinguish some special steel types, let alone specific steel grades.
